How long will it take to get my search back?


The normal turnaround time for a statewide NC search is about 1-2 business days. Searches outside of North Carolina usually take 3-5 days.

What will the results of my background check look like?


Most background check results will appear to be very basic. It will state your name, date of birth, social security number, and whether you have a criminal record or not. If you do not have a record, the report will state 'Clear' or 'No Record. If you do have a past or current criminal record, the pertinent case information including charges, disposition and sentencing information will be listed.

How will I receive the results of my background check?


You will receive an e-mail informing you that your order has been completed. Please return to the website www.ask-services.com. Click on the red link which says Click to log in for results. Enter your username and password. After entering your password you will automatically be re-directed to a page which will display your background check results. Print this page, attach it to your NCREC completed application, and submit it to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.

How far back will my record be searched?


Your record will be searched as far back as the court records allow, but no less than 7 years.

Will you report dismissed or closed cases?


We will report any criminal case, whether it is open, closed by conviction or dismissed.

I was married within the past 7 years. Do I need to check both my maiden and married names?


Yes. Because criminal cases are indexed by name, you should have a background check on each legal name that you have used within the past 7 years.

I have lived in North Carolina for the past 6 ½ years. Do I still need to complete an out-of-state search?


Yes. The North Carolina real estate application requires that each applicant submit a County level criminal background check for each county the applicant has lived in within the past 7 years.

How much does a background check cost?


A.S.K. Services, Inc. charges a nominal fee of $10 per name searched for the North Carolina statewide background search. The North Carolina statewide background search includes all NC counties. Each county searched outside of North Carolina is $20 per name searched plus any applicable court costs. Prior to order confirmation, your order total will be displayed on the screen for your records.

No. You will need to download the report from our website and send it in with your application to the real estate commission.
